How to Create Donut Shapes

There are several methods for creating donut shapes for your donut recipe.

Use a Donut Pan

One common approach is to use a donut pan, which allows you to pour the batter or dough into the pan and bake or fry it to achieve the classic donut shape. We love our silicone donut pans which allows for making 18 small donuts – perfect for this particular recipe.

Use a Donut Cutter

Another option for some recipes is to roll out the dough and use a donut cutter to create perfectly shaped donuts before frying or baking them. This multi-sized set of biscuit cutters is great for cookies, biscuits, donuts, etc. Keep in mind some donut batters are much thicker than others. Some doughs will work with being rolled out and then cut with donut cutters. Our pink donut batter does NOT work well with donut cutters. The dough is not thick enough with this recipe.

Use a Piping Bag

Alternatively, you can form the dough into individual donut shapes by hand, either by shaping the dough into rings or using a piping bag to create the desired shape directly into the fryer or onto a baking sheet. Again, this method works fine for some donut recipes, but this method doesn’t work as well with our recipe here.

However, we do recommend you add your batter to a piping bag even when using the donut pan. Piping the dough into the donut cups (as seen in the picture above) will be less messy than dropping to drop the dough in with a spoon.

Each method can result in delicious donuts, and the choice depends on the recipe and your personal preference.

Making the Pink Glaze for Pink Donuts with Sprinkles

What makes these pink donuts so special is the pink vanilla icing glaze. We use the same vanilla icing glaze on so many different desserts. We’ve used them on our mini fried pies. We’ve used them on sugar cookies and oatmeal cookies. And we’ve used them on cakes. This glaze is very versatile, and you can use it on many different things. You simply change out the food coloring of your choice and add whatever sprinkles or toppings you want to really kind of customize a dessert.

Adding Sprinkles to Donuts with Pink Glaze

We think the best part about pink donuts are all the fun sprinkles you can add! The possibilities are endless! The best color sprinkles to complement pink donuts are typically pastel shades such as light pink, white, or even a touch of shimmering gold.

These colors create a visually appealing contrast against the pink frosting or glaze, adding an extra element of sweetness and charm to the donuts. Additionally, incorporating sprinkles in various shapes, such as hearts or stars, can further enhance the playful nature of our pink donuts.

But we also like the pop of a dark purple and red against the pink! This is especially cute for girly events! Or you can make some pink donuts with rainbow sprinkles for a donut similar to the Dunkin Donuts favorite!
